Blend Youth Project

Volunteering

Volunteers play a key role and are an essential part of the overall team at Blend Youth Project.  We are so grateful for the many passionate, dedicated volunteers who give generously of their time and talents in supporting young people.

Our volunteers join us for a variety of reasons and from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences, there really is no ‘typical’ volunteer at Blend Youth Project!  All we ask is that you have a genuine heart to support young people as a positive and non-judgemental role-model and we can help with the rest!

Whatever your reasons for joining us, you can be assured of a warm welcome to the team at Blend Youth Project and we know that for many of our volunteers they have gained valuable skills and experience and found it to be a tremendously rewarding experience.

Why not read what some of them had to say and register your interest below!

My name is Jack Wright and I volunteer at the 'Ripley' branch of 'Blend.  As a musician, I joined to pass on my knowledge and teach the young people piano; alongside this, I now work behind the coffee bar. One of the main reasons I joined the project was to become more confident which is an essential quality when seeking a career within the music industry. Since the start of my volunteering in February 2012, I have noticed a big rise in my confidence which has benefited me not only professionally, but in all aspects of my life. I owe this largely to the staff who have shown outstanding patience with me and have all been an absolute pleasure to work with. I would recommend volunteering with 'Blend' to anybody with even a little time to spare, which they wish to fill with something both enjoyable and fulfilling.

My name is Liam Barber and I’m currently a student at Heanor Gate Science College Sixth Form and a volunteer at the Heanor Blend. I’m aspiring to study Medicine at University next year and so showing the willingness to get involved in my local community was a necessity. Not only that, I wanted to do something more productive with my spare time which was both beneficial to those around me and to myself when striving towards future goals. When volunteering I act as a team with the Blend staff to interact and socialise with the young people, providing them with a place of both comfort and fun – a place that is their own. As well as broadening my ability and confidence communicating with varying age ranges, volunteering at Blend is also very rewarding as you are part of a team which is improving the lives of so many young people.Liam Barber
